COLOMBO, Sept. 26 – Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake announced on Wednesday that the government plans to begin negotiations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) immediately and proceed with activities related to the extended credit facility.

In his first address to the nation as president, Dissanayake said Sri Lanka is negotiating with relevant creditors to expedite the process and secure necessary debt relief.

The president expressed confidence in gaining both domestic and international support to secure the necessary debt relief for Sri Lanka.

“We are confident that we can gain the support of both the people of this country and the international community, and we believe that through this collective support, we can achieve success,” Dissanayake stated.

He outlined the importance of building a united Sri Lankan nation, with a focus on creating a law-abiding, disciplined society while ensuring social security for all citizens.
