NARATHIWAT, Sept 30 – Two soldiers were injured in a car bomb explosion near the official residence of the Tak Bai District Chief in Narathiwat, southern Thailand, on Sunday.

A spokesperson for the 4th Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC-4), Colonel Akwarit Chobchuphon, stated that the incident occurred around 9:50 pm local time, and five houses belonging to local residents nearby were also destroyed due to the powerful explosion.

He stated that initial investigations found that a car, believed to be stolen, had been rigged with explosives and parked at a security checkpoint near the residence of the Tak Bai District Chief.

“The stolen vehicle was detonated by four masked men who were armed,” he said when met at the scene on Monday.

According to Akwarit, the two security officers manning the check point sustained injuries.

“They were rushed to Narathiwat Ratchanakarin Hospital for treatment and are reported to be in stable condition.” he added.
