KUALA TERENGGANU, Oct 13 – The Terengganu government’s subsidiary, Eastern Pacific Industrial Corporation Berhad (EPIC Berhad), has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Malaysia Rail Link Sdn Bhd (MRL), to integrate its operations with the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project network.

EPIC Berhad chief executive officer Muhtar Suhaili said that the MoU outlines the commitment of both parties to collaborate on enhancing transport efficiency and cargo handling, particularly along the Kemaman Port connection route.

He added that the partnership will leverage the expertise of both entities in rail and port operations, unlocking new commercial opportunities, improving regional connectivity and driving economic growth in Terengganu. This initiative aligns with the Kemaman Port expansion master plan.

“The 665-kilometre (km) ECRL project, linking Kota Bharu to Port Klang, will serve as a vital land bridge, connecting major industrial hubs and creating a direct route between the South China Sea and the Strait of Melaka.

“Integrating Kemaman Port into this network will streamline cargo movement, reduce transportation costs and bolster Terengganu’s position as a key industrial player,” he said in a statement.

Muhtar highlighted that EPIC Berhad and MRL aim to foster closer cooperation and explore additional opportunities in their respective fields of expertise.

He added that Kemaman Port’s strategic location, functioning as a deep-sea port operational year-round regardless of weather, combined with EPIC Berhad’s diverse business portfolio and the ECRL network, which includes the Klang Valley’s economic hub, will unlock greater opportunities for both parties.

“This collaboration will boost logistics efficiency, strengthen trade routes, and position Terengganu as a key player in the transport sector,” he said.

Established in 1981, EPIC Berhad is an integrated service provider for the upstream and downstream oil and gas sectors.
