KUALA LUMPUR, July 23 — Some of the 30 new clusters reported today have stemmed from the actions of several individuals who travelled across states, says Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
He said among the new community clusters detected included the Jalan Bestari Yayasan Cluster, of which the index case is a 53-year-old local woman with a history of traveling from Selangor to Johor on July 9 to attend a funeral.
According to him, the woman tested positive for COVID-19 on July 22, and 38 screening tests performed on close contacts revealed another 19 positive cases.
“Another community cluster that involved a funeral is the Kerilla cluster, of which the index case is a 38-year-old local man who travelled from Klang, Selangor to Tanah Merah in Kelantan on July 11.
“This resulted in nine positive cases being detected through screening tests conducted on 23 close contacts,” he said in a statement today.
Dr Noor Hisham said the actions of a 15-year-old boy who travelled from Kelantan to Selangor and Johor from July 10 to July 15 also triggered a community cluster, namely the Kampung Baru Bukit Kecil Labok cluster in Machang, Kelantan.
He said so far, a total of 12 people were found to be positive as a result of 38 screening tests conducted on close contacts after the index case was found to be positive for COVID-19 on July 18.
A total of 30 new COVID-19 clusters were reported nationwide today, of which 16 were community clusters, followed by workplace clusters (eight), high-risk group clusters (four), as well as one religious cluster and one higher education cluster.
