Gazprom Neft Discovers Largest Oil Field in Yamal With 55 Mln Tonnes of Reserves

MOSCOW, Feb 12 — Russian energy giant Gazprom Neft said on Wednesday that it had discovered  the largest oil field in Yamal in 30 years with reserves of 55 million tonnes, reported Sputnik/RIA Novosti.

It added that the newly discovered field has been named after the famous Russian geologist Alexey Kontorovich.

“Gazprom Neft has discovered a deposit with geological reserves of 55 million tonnes of oil in the Arctic zone of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Area. The discovery confirmed the prospects for further development of the company’s oil production centre in the south of Yamal,” the company said in a statement.

The field is named after Alexey Kontorovich, one of the founders of the Russian scientific school of oil and gas geology and organic geochemistry, the statement read.
