KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 5 — Universiti Malaya (UM) student Farah Hannan Abd Nasir has been chosen as Malaysia’s sole representative to the Young Person’s World Lecture Competition (YPWLC) which will be held in November.
UM in a statement today said the PhD student at the Low Dimensional Materials Research Centre (LDMRC) of the Science Faculty will receive full sponsorship from the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3) United Kingdom (UK).
According to UM, the selection of Farah Hannan, 27, to the YPWLC was due to the student’s success in emerging as the national champion in the Materials Lecture Competition (MLC) 2021.
The success of Farah Hannan also put the university as the champion for three consecutive years in the MLC competition, it said.
Meanwhile, Farah Hannan said YPWLC was one of the platforms for her to share research projects with a wider audience.
MLC is jointly organised by Institute Materials Malaysia (IMM) and IOM3 UK to promote awareness on the importance of engineering materials and its sustainability in the advancement of technology and humankind.
Through the competition, researchers and students from public and private universities can use it as a platform to showcase their ability and effectiveness in presenting the results of their research or projects to the public.
UM has participated in MLC since 2013 and managed to enter the final round at the national level eight times.
