Foreigner Held Over Harassment of Woman at MRT Station

KUALA LUMPUR, April 11 — The police arrested a foreign man for allegedly molesting a 22-year-old local woman at the Kuchai Lama MRT station after following her as she walked towards the toilet on Thursday (April 9).

Brickfields district police chief ACP Hoo Chang Hook said the 20-year-old unemployed Chinese national was arrested at 8.10pm the same day.

“Police received a report from the victim, who said an unknown man had approached her from behind and hugged her without permission,” he said in a statement today.

Hoo added that the suspect has been remanded until April 24 to assist with investigations under Section 354 of the Penal Code and Section 6(1) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.

Meanwhile, Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd said the suspect is also believed to be involved in another sexual harassment incident on a Kelana Jaya line train.

“The suspect was taken to the Sri Petaling police station for further action. Rapid Rail will fully cooperate with the Royal Malaysia Police in the investigation,” it said in a statement.

Rapid Rail urged passengers to immediately report any harassment they witnessed or experienced to station staff or auxiliary police personnel for swift action.
