Hezbollah Bloc Affirms Ceasefire Commitment If It Covers All Lebanon

BEIRUT,  April 18 — The parliamentary bloc of Hezbollah said on Friday that it is committed to a ceasefire with Israel, provided it is comprehensive and covers all Lebanese territories, Anadolu Ajansi reported.

The statement came after US President Donald Trump announced a 10-day ceasefire in Lebanon late Thursday.

In a statement, the “Loyalty to the Resistance” bloc said it would adhere to the truce “with caution”, on the condition that it “includes all Lebanese regions, particularly border areas, halts hostilities, restricts Israeli military movement, and leads to a full Israeli withdrawal.”

The bloc said the ceasefire was reached largely due to Iranian pressure and diplomatic contacts, while criticising Lebanese authorities for what it described as “yielding to US demands and pursuing direct negotiations” with Israel.

It warned that initiating direct talks with Israel goes against the national will and could usher in a “dangerous phase” for the country.

The statement also criticised limiting the ceasefire to 10 days, describing it as an attempt to pressure the Lebanese government and accelerate direct negotiations, which it said could have “serious consequences”.

Meanwhile, tens of thousands of displaced Lebanese began returning on Friday to Beirut’s southern suburbs and towns and villages in the south following the implementation of the ceasefire.
