KUALA LUMPUR, May 3 — Her Majesty Raja Zarith Sofiah, Queen of Malaysia, departed for Tashkent, Uzbekistan today to attend an international conference titled “Scientific Tradition in Islamic Civilisation: Sources, Potential and Challenges”.
According to a post on Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar’s official Facebook page, the conference will be held on May 5 at the Centre of Islamic Civilisation (CIC) in Tashkent.
“Her Majesty, who is also the Chancellor of Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), will deliver a Royal Address to more than 200 distinguished participants, including intellectuals, thinkers and statesmen from diverse backgrounds,” the post said.
Accompanying the Queen to the conference is Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir.
Raja Zarith Sofiah earlier departed from the Royal Hangar at Senai International Airport, Johor this morning.
Her Majesty was accompanied by the Comptroller of the Royal Household at Istana Negara, Tan Sri Dr Azmi Rohani, and his wife Puan Sri Dr Noor Azizah Abdul Latif, as well as Johor Mufti Datuk Yahya Ahmad.
