KUALA LUMPUR, May 6 — Heavy rain since 4 pm today triggered flash floods in several parts of the Klang Valley, bringing traffic to a standstill in multiple locations.
A Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) spokesman, when contacted by Bernama, said flash floods were reported at Kilometre 48.0 of the Shah Alam Expressway (Kesas) from Kinrara towards Awan Besar, resulting in a four-kilometre traffic jam since 4.27 pm.
The spokesman added that flooding was also reported on the Kuchai Link towards the New Pantai Expressway (NPE) and at KM18.9 heading towards Maju Jaya, where one lane was submerged, causing traffic to crawl.
Meanwhile, Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) assistant director of operations Ahmad Mukhlis Mokhtar said the department received an emergency call regarding flash floods at a food court in Jalan 51A/223, Section 51A, Petaling Jaya, at 4.15 pm.
“Floodwaters at the food court reached an estimated depth of 121 centimetres, and several vehicles parked in the area were submerged.
“No evacuations were carried out as water levels have begun to recede,” he said in a statement today.
He added that six personnel from the Petaling Jaya Fire and Rescue Station were dispatched to the scene.
A 12-second video circulating on social media showed stagnant water believed to be inside the Bukit Jalil Light Rail Transit (LRT) station.
Flash floods were also reported along the stretch from Bukit Jalil to Puchong Kinrara, causing slow traffic.
Similar incidents were reported on the Federal Highway in Petaling Jaya, causing heavy traffic congestion.
Motorists on the Middle Ring Road 2 (MRR2) at Desa Tun Razak also experienced delays due to flash floods and waterlogging.
A fallen tree near a Petron station on the Kuala Lumpur-Seremban Expressway towards Desa Petaling (southbound) blocked two lanes and caused a traffic slowdown.
