MOSCOW, June 9 – The BRICS countries are testing new payment mechanisms on a bilateral basis, Russian Deputy Finance Minister Ivan Chebeskov said.
“Discussions are ongoing regarding all the initiatives we proposed in 2024. Although no specific platforms have been established yet, we are seeing initial results – namely, pilot projects on a bilateral basis for some of these initiatives. And secondly, there is a more active discussion overall regarding the need to create an alternative infrastructure,” Chebeskov told the Izvestia newspaper, reported Sputnik/RIA Novosti.
Most countries have adopted these new payment mechanisms, and there is a need for these, the deputy minister added. Such systems must exist in the future, Chebeskov added.
In 2024, Russian Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matvienko announced at the BRICS Parliamentary Forum that the organisation might establish a multilateral digital payment platform.
