PENANG, June 21 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Saturday officially opened he National Journalists’ Day (HAWANA) 2026 Summit at the PICCA at Arena Butterworth Convention Centre here. Centred around the theme “Media Integrity, the Core of Credibility,” the annual event brought together over a thousand mainstream media practitioners from both local and international arenas to celebrate the occasion.
Datuk Keith Li (Li Zhongping), President of the China Entrepreneurs Association in Malaysia (PUCM) and founder of the trilingual news platform MCM Insight, was invited to attend this national-level media event.
At the venue, he met and engaged in warm exchanges with VIPs including Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, and Minister of Communications Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, exchanging views on topics such as Malaysia-China media cooperation, economic and trade connectivity, and diversified media development.
In an interview, Datuk Keith Li expressed that HAWANA National Journalists’ Day is an important platform through which the Malaysian government demonstrates its appreciation for the media industry and listens to its voice. As a Chinese businessman and media practitioner who has been rooted in Malaysia for thirty years, he stated that he will continue to leverage the twin platforms of PUCM and MCM Insight to focus on three key initiatives:
“First, to uphold the core media principles of truth and objectivity while delivering authoritative government and public affairs information; second, to consistently promote regular engagements between Malaysian and Chinese governments and enterprises, thereby boosting bilateral trade and investment; and third, to support the growth of Chinese media by nurturing a new generation of bilingual and trilingual media talent, leveraging the power of media to foster enduring friendly exchanges and cooperation between Malaysia and China.”
