PUTRAJAYA, July 9 — Thailand Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul today extended his best wishes to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim ahead of the upcoming Johor state election.
“I wish you the best of luck for your upcoming election in Johor,” Anutin said at the end of the joint press conference with Anwar in conjunction with his official visit to Malaysia, here today.
The 16th Johor state election, scheduled for polling this Saturday, sees 172 candidates vying for 56 seats. Anwar’s coalition, Pakatan Harapan (PH), has fielded candidates in all 56 constituencies, featuring a blend of veterans and newcomers from PKR, DAP and Amanah.
Meanwhile, Anwar described his meeting with Anutin as warm and productive, likening the discussions to a gathering of close friends.
“Come again soon (to Malaysia), because you make us so comfortable and happy and very relaxed. I mean, my colleagues would certainly agree with me when I say this meeting is just like among old friends,” he said.
Anutin arrived in Malaysia today for a two-day official visit at the invitation of Anwar, marking his first visit to the country since his reappointment in March 2026.
The visit aims to further strengthen bilateral relations and deepen cooperation in various areas of mutual interest between the two neighbouring nations.
