KUALA LUMPUR, July 14 – The government will review the radio industry landscape through a study of the National Broadcasting Policy to strengthen the broadcasting ecosystem, says Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil.
He said the study would be conducted by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), in line with the National Creative Industry Policy and the agenda of the Orange Economy Council.
According to Fahmi, this was among the issues discussed during a town hall session with the management and local radio industry players to hear their views, challenges and suggestions in strengthening the country’s broadcasting ecosystem.
“Among the matters discussed were efforts to enhance local music content, licensing models, the sustainability of the radio industry and how this sector can continue to grow in the rapidly expanding digital landscape,” he said in a Facebook post.
Fahmi added that the government would continue to work closely with industry players to ensure local radio remains relevant, competitive and continues to be a medium that is close to the people.
