Bersama to Sit Out Negeri Sembilan Polls

SEREMBAN, July 16 — Parti Bersama Malaysia (Bersama) has decided not to contest the 16th Negeri Sembilan state election in order to focus on the Melaka state election.

The party’s leaders, Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli, Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad and Syukri Razab, said in a joint statement on Wednesday that the decision was made after taking into consideration current developments in Negeri Sembilan, as well as time and resource constraints.

“An initial preparatory meeting for the Melaka state election will be held on July 21 to identify seats and begin screening prospective candidates so that they can be announced well in advance,” they said.

The Election Commission (EC) has fixed Aug 1 as polling day for the Negeri Sembilan election, with nomination day scheduled for this Saturday and early voting on July 28.

In the Johor state election on July 11, Bersama, contesting for the first time, failed to win any of the 15 seats it contested.
