KUALA PILAH, July 26 — Voter sentiment in the Pilah state constituency towards the Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate is extremely positive, driven by the coalition’s solid governance track record and hard work by grassroots machinery.
Senior Political Advisor to the Prime Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz said on-ground surveys and feedback showed local residents appreciated the efforts and assistance provided by incumbent state assemblyman Datuk Noorzunita Begum Mohd Ibrahim throughout her service.
“Even before arriving here (in Kuala Pilah), we conducted analyses and ground assessments. Indeed, voter sentiment and acceptance towards our candidate is high. However, we cannot be overconfident or complacent. Campaigning and service to the people must continue without interruption.
“Insya-Allah, we will be able to retain the Pilah seat,” he told reporters after joining Noorzunita Begum on the campaign trail around here.
During the walkabout, Tengku Zafrul and Noorzunita Begum, accompanied by party workers, met voters to discuss local issues, hear proposals, and listen to grievances, including desired development projects.
Tengku Zafrul said Negeri Sembilan’s economic performance remains solid, with total investments reaching RM19 billion and state reserves exceeding RM1 billion. This proves the effectiveness of governance and political stability under Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun, which must be maintained.
Commenting on development priorities in Kuala Pilah, Tengku Zafrul, an ex-officio member of the PKR Political Bureau, said emphasis must be placed on creating high-quality professional jobs for Gen Z so they can build careers without migrating far from their hometowns.
He said the MADANI Government takes seriously the need to bridge the economic development gap between major urban areas and rural or traditional villages.
“Kuala Pilah holds immense potential. Although the economic spillover in certain areas is indirect, we are constantly formulating strategies to attract new investments and expand economic coverage more equitably across Negeri Sembilan,” he said.
In the 16th Negeri Sembilan State Election, Noorzunita Begum, representing PKR, faces Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate S. Leza Md Yasin in a straight fight for the Pilah seat.
Meanwhile, Noorzunita Begum said that as campaigning entered its eighth day, her machinery had visited most residential areas and would focus fully on traditional villages in the coming week.
“We have covered almost the entire area. Next week, our main focus will be engaging traditional villages to ensure every layer of society is reached and introduced to our development vision,” she said.
She expressed hope for voter support towards PH and reaffirmed her commitment to continue advocating for public welfare, especially for Gen Z, education and senior citizens in the constituency.
Asked about the outcome of today’s walkabout, she noted a high demand among local youths for professional employment opportunities.
According to the Election Commission (EC) electoral roll updated on June 4, Pilah, one of five state constituencies within the Kuala Pilah parliamentary constituency, has a total of 18,034 registered voters, comprising 17,775 ordinary voters and 259 police personnel and spouses.
Pilah state constituency, located in central Negeri Sembilan between Seremban and Bahau, has 8,925 male voters (49.49 per cent) and 9,109 female voters (50.51 per cent), showing an almost equal gender distribution among electors.
