SEREMBAN, July 30 – The momentum of support for Pakatan Harapan (PH) in the Negeri Sembilan state election is at its strongest despite the coalition facing various allegations and issues raised by its opponents throughout the campaign period.
Negeri Sembilan DAP chairman Anthony Loke said PH had consistently explained its achievements, service record and manifesto pledges to voters throughout the campaign.
He said attempts by certain quarters to exploit defamatory political narratives, including linking DAP to the Negeri Sembilan Palace to intimidate Malay voters, had backfired after the Palace issued an official statement.
“The palace has reaffirmed its neutral role in politics, effectively debunking the false claims spread by certain parties. I believe such arguments and slander will ultimately backfire on those responsible,” he told reporters after the Grand Finale Kekal Harapan Negeri Sembilan programme at Perniagaan Betaria last night.
Also present were Prime Minister and PH chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Amanah president Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, his deputy Datuk Seri Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa, and PH candidates contesting the state election.
Commenting on voter turnout, Loke, who is also DAP secretary-general, said PH was targeting a turnout of between 75 and 80 per cent and urged voters to come out in large numbers to fulfil their civic responsibility.
“Negeri Sembilan is located close to the Klang Valley, so we hope voter turnout will be high. Our main target is to retain all our incumbent seats and win additional seats to form the state government,” said Loke, who is also the PH candidate for the Chennah state seat.
He also described the support received from various segments of society, including the Malay and Chinese communities, during the 11-day campaign in Chennah as highly encouraging.
A total of 867,151 ordinary voters will cast their ballots this Saturday to elect representatives for 36 state seats, with 103 candidates contesting the election.
