KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 8 —National men’s doubles pair Man Wei Chong-Soh Wooi Yik stormed into an all-Malaysian final at the Korea Masters after overcoming Japan’s Haruki Kawabe-Kenta Matsukawa in a hard-fought semi-final at the Asan Yi Sun-sin Gymnasium today.
Wei Chong-Wooi Yik recovered from losing the opening game 18-21 to edge the second 22-20 before wrapping up a 21-18 victory in the decider.
The triumph also earned the pair their first final since coming under the guidance of national men’s doubles head coach Herry Iman Pierngadi last month.
Awaiting them in tomorrow’s final are compatriots Tee Kai Wun-Yap Roy King, who advanced after receiving a walkover following the withdrawal of Japan’s Shuji Sawada-Daigo Tanioka from the other semi-final.
Meanwhile, national men’s singles shuttler Cheam June Wei’s campaign came to an end after he went down 21-8, 16-21, 12-21 to China’s Zhu Xuan Chen in a 58-minute semi-final.
The defeat also ended Malaysia’s challenge in the men’s singles event
