KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 26 — Seventeen areas in six states and two Federal Territories recorded unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings as of 8 am today.
Based on data from the Air Pollutant Index Management System (APIMS) portal, three areas in Sarawak recorded unhealthy air quality, with Sri Aman recording the highest API reading of 167, followed by Serian district police headquarters (IPD) (166) and Samarahan (162).
Five areas in Selangor also recorded readings above 100, namely Johan Setia and Shah Alam with an API reading of 158 each, Klang (151), Banting (144) and Petaling Jaya (123).
In the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur, two areas recorded unhealthy API readings, namely Cheras (159) and Batu Muda (152), while Nilai (162) and Seremban (158) recorded unhealthy readings in Negeri Sembilan.
The five other areas that recorded unhealthy API levels were the Federal Territory of Putrajaya (159); Tangkak (153) in Johor; Bukit Rambai (143) and Alor Gajah (128) in Melaka; and Taiping (108) in Perak.
In addition, 49 areas nationwide recorded moderate air quality, while two areas recorded good readings. No areas recorded very unhealthy or hazardous readings as of this morning.
An API reading of zero to 50 indicates good air quality, 51 to 100 moderate, 101 to 200 unhealthy, 201 to 300 very unhealthy, while readings above 300 are considered hazardous.
API data is released hourly based on readings recorded at 68 air quality monitoring stations nationwide.
