MOSCOW, Aug 27 — South Korean carmaker Kia is recalling 21,290 vehicles in the United States (US) due to issues with airbags, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said, reported Sputnik/RIA Novosti.
Certain 2025-2026 model-year EV9 vehicles are subject to the recall because their Occupant Detection System may fail to disable the airbag if a child or child seat is in the front passenger seat, NHTSA explained.
Dealers will conduct a free inspection and replace the affected parts if necessary.
Notification letters are scheduled to be sent to owners starting October 20, the statement added.
