ARAU, Sept 11 — The Raja of Perlis Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail granted an audience to deputy army chief Lieutenant General Datuk Mohamad Suria Mohamad Saad at the Balai Mengadap Hijau, Istana Arau, here, yesterday.
Also in attendance was Raja Muda of Perlis Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail.
Istana Arau, in a statement today, said the meeting reflected the close relationship between the Perlis Royal Institution and the army, particularly in strengthening cooperation in security and defence, in line with Perlis’ position as a state bordering the northern part of the country, which also holds strategic importance in terms of security.
“The strong cooperation between Perlis and the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) is crucial to ensuring that the security and sovereignty of the state and country continue to be safeguarded, while also ensuring the well-being of the people.
“This relationship also serves as an important foundation for enhancing preparedness and cooperation in facing any security challenges that could affect the peace and stability of the country,” the palace said.
Istana Arau added that Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin is Colonel-in-Chief of the Royal Ranger Regiment and the Royal Military Police Corps, while Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra is Commander of the 504 Territorial Army Regiment.
The palace said that the continued commitment between the Perlis Royal Institution and the MAF reflected unity in defending the country’s sovereignty, particularly in ensuring that Perlis remains peaceful, safe and prosperous as the country’s frontline.
His Royal Highness, an alumnus of the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in England, also shared his experience serving as an army officer in the Reconnaissance Corps when the country faced the communist threat, confrontation with Indonesia and the May 13, 1969 Incident,” Istana Arau said.
