PETALING JAYA: Sept 28 – Berjaya Corporation Bhd founder and adviser Tan Sri Vincent Tan has paid tribute to Tun Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali, describing her as a graceful, humble and kind woman who connected with ordinary Malaysians through her warmth and genuine care for others.
Expressing his heartfelt condolences to former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and his family, Tan said Siti Hasmah had stood faithfully beside Mahathir throughout his long service to the country.
“I have always admired and respected Tun Dr Siti Hasmah for the person she was graceful, humble, kind and always carrying herself with dignity.
“She was a loving wife and mother who stood faithfully beside Tun Dr Mahathir throughout his long service to the country,” he said in a message following her death yesterday.
Tan said Dr Siti Hasmah had been a prominent figure alongside Mahathir during his years as prime minister, but remained closely connected to ordinary Malaysians.
“For 22 years and 22 months, she was our First Lady, but beyond that title, she was someone who connected with ordinary Malaysians through her warmth and genuine care for others,” he said.
He described her passing as a great loss to the nation.
“Her passing is a great loss to the nation. She will be remembered with great affection and respect by many Malaysians, and her kindness and contribution will not be forgotten,” he said.
Tan wished Mahathir and his family comfort in the memories of the life they shared with Siti Hasmah.
“May Tun Dr Mahathir and his family find comfort in the memories of the wonderful life they shared with her,” he said.
