KANGAR, Sept 29 — University students need to master technology while developing strong reading skills, critical thinking and values, so they do not merely become technology users but are also capable of creating value through knowledge and innovation.
The Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, said the rapidly changing world, driven by technological advancements and evolving demands, required students to be adaptable, think critically and develop relevant solutions.
He said the opportunity to pursue higher education must be fully utilised to nurture graduates who are not only knowledgeable and competent but also possess integrity, enabling them to adapt to technological advancements and contribute meaningfully to industry and society.
“Do not let the hopes and sacrifices of your families who have supported you throughout your journey go to waste,” His Royal Highness said when officiating the Appreciation Ceremony in conjunction with Universiti Malaysia Perlis’ (UniMAP) Orientation Week for the 2026/2027 Academic Session in Arau yesterday, according to a statement issued by Istana Arau today.
Also present were the Raja Puan Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Dr Hajah Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil, who is also the UniMAP Pro-Chancellor, and their daughter, Hajah Sharifah Farah Adriana Jamalullail.
Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra, who is also the UniMAP Chancellor, said the university provides an ideal environment for students to acquire knowledge, hone their skills, broaden their experiences and unlock their potential, equipping them to navigate an increasingly dynamic world.
“New students from diverse backgrounds arrive with their own dreams and aspirations, as well as the hopes of their families, and today, they officially become part of the UniMAP community,” he said.
Meanwhile, Istana Arau said UniMAP welcomed 2,798 new students into its Bachelor’s degree programmes for the 2026/2027 academic session.
Registration for new students began on Sept 26, followed by the Orientation Week, which features activities aimed at strengthening academic preparedness, character development and familiarity with campus life.
