Malaysia Welcomes China’s Technology, Knowledge Transfer Proposals – Ahmad Zahid

BEIJING, Oct 15 — Malaysia welcomes China’s proposals to expand technology and knowledge transfer, as both countries seek to deepen strategic cooperation beyond conventional investment arrangements, said Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

He said the initiatives were among the key proposals raised by Chinese Vice-Premier Ding Xuexiang during their meeting here today, reflecting Beijing’s commitment to strengthening bilateral ties.

Ahmad Zahid said Malaysia viewed the proposals positively, particularly China’s willingness to share expertise and technology through joint projects, including the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) and the electric vehicle (EV) sector.

“He (Ding) also proposed several new initiatives for Malaysia to consider, reflecting China’s intention to transfer not only technology but also knowledge, which I believe is very welcome,” he told a press conference here today.

Earlier, Ahmad Zahid, who is on a five-day working visit to China, paid a courtesy call on Ding at the Great Hall of the People. The meeting lasted about 30 minutes.

Ahmad Zahid said China had also expressed readiness to explore financing through the Export-Import Bank of China (China Exim Bank) for high-impact projects with significant economic benefits for Malaysia.

He said the proposal could open up financing opportunities for projects beyond the ECRL, which involves substantial investment and government-guaranteed loans.

However, he declined to disclose details of the new projects discussed, saying Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim would make the announcements when the time comes.

Ahmad Zahid said he would brief Anwar on the outcome of the meeting for his consideration and discuss the necessary follow-up measures with the Foreign Minister.

The discussions also covered multilateral cooperation, including China’s support for Malaysia’s bid for full BRICS membership.
