KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 8 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has condemned the deadly shooting in Krakow, Poland and also calls for stronger international efforts against right-wing extremism.
“I am saddened by the horrific shooting in Kraków, Poland, which has claimed six innocent lives and left many others injured. Malaysia stands in solidarity with the people of Poland and extends its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.
“We pray for the swift recovery of those injured,” he said in a Facebook post on Sunday.
Anwar also expressed concern over reports that the attacker had been influenced by far-right extremist ideologies.
“This tragedy underscores the need to confront terrorism in all its forms, including the growing threat of violent right-wing extremism. No ideology can justify the murder of innocent people,” he said.
He reaffirmed Malaysia’s commitment to working with the international community to counter extremism and uphold peace and human dignity.
The shooting occurred at Krakow’s historic Main Market Square on Saturday (Nov 7), when a gunman drove into the square and opened fire, killing four women and two men.
At least 15 others were injured, including police officers.
Polish authorities said the suspect, a 25-year-old Polish national, was shot and detained by police.
Polish Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński said preliminary indications suggested the attacker held radical, far-right views, although the motive remained under investigation.
