KUCHING, March 28 — A total of seven bridge projects in Sarawak are expected to be completed and opened for public use by the end of this year, said Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.
He said the seven bridges are the Batang Lupar 1 Bridge, Batang Saribas 1 Bridge, Batang Limbang, Batang Lingga, Batang Igan, Batang Sebauh and Sejingkat Bridge in Kuching.
“So far this year, we have opened four bridges including the recent iconic Bintulu-Jepak Bridge in Bintulu, the Muara Lassa Bridge, Marudi Bridge, and today the Batang Rajang Bridge,” he said in a statement here.
Today, Uggah attended the soft opening of the 1.4 kilometre (km)-Batang Rajang Bridge in Sarikei.
The project cost a total of RM321 million, including the 17 km-long Pasi/Tanjung Manis/Sibu Road.
With the bridge, travel time between Tanjung Manis and Sibu will be reduced to about an hour, compared to two-and-a-half hours using the old road.
