KUALA LUMPUR, April 15 — A reality television show that allows local innovators from different fields to present their ideas and technological creations and innovations to Malaysians will be aired soon.

The programme titled Innovathon, which was the joint initiative of the Economy Ministry and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), offered participants cash prizes and investment services of up to RM1 million

 In a statement today, MOSTI stated the programme will be aired on Astro, among others to enable local innovators to find the potential investment in the commercialisation of their innovative products.

“MOSTI is confident the programme will further boost the culture of Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) at all levels, and unearth technological talents and creative entrepreneurs in line with the Malaysia Madani aspiration and complement the local technology ecosytem.

“It will indirectly promote the proliferation of startups and the development of the local startup ecosystem,” the statement reads.

The statement added that a total of six audition sessions will be held nationwide to scout for talents of existing innovators before being guided and assisted by qualified mentors in research, development, and innovation ecosystem throughout the weekly episodes.’

The show will be broadcast in eight episodes, with 56 participants who qualified the selection process at the audition session. 

The participation is open to all Malaysians regardless of background and age limit. Participants are required to prepare one-minute video clip and send it via email to inovasi@astro.com.my before May 7 this year.

 The INNOVATHON pre-launch ceremony was officiated by Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli yesterday.
