KUANTAN, April 17 — Three retailers were fined a total of RM500 for not displaying pink price tags on items listed in the 2023 Hari Raya Maximum Price Scheme (SHMMP).
Deputy Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Senator Fuziah Salleh said action was taken only as a last resort after inspecting 2,036 wholesale and retail outlets nationwide since the SHMMP came into effect on Saturday.
“In this enforcement, our intention is not to impose compounds but rather to educate … (there have been) many situations where the enforcers reprimanded and explained to correct (traders) instead of compounding them,” she said after inspecting the implementation of the SHMMP and launching the Payung Rahmah initiative by Nirwana Group, here today.
SHMMP Hari Raya Puasa 2023 is being implemented from April 15 to 30 covering 30 types of basic goods such as seafood, dry goods, vegetables and meat.
She added that during the two days of the implementation of (SHMMP), no price-related complaints were received from consumers and the supply of essential goods was sufficient.
In addition, a total of 16 strategic partners have committed to participating in Jualan Rahmah, including Nirwana Group, Econsave, Pantai Selamat, Billion and TMG Mall.
At the programme, a total of 100 Rahmah Baskets worth more than RM100 each were donated to the needy.
