PETALING JAYA, Aug 17: A total of 286 people were arrested by the authorities yesterday for breaching the recovery movement control order (RMCO).
Of those arrested, 242 were slapped with compounds while 44 were remanded, Senior Minister for Security Ismail Sabri Yaakob said in a statement today.
Among the offences were taking part in activities that made physical distancing difficult, not recording the particulars of guests, not wearing face masks in crowded places and operating beyond the stipulated time.
Ismail said 16,259 personnel from 5,032 task force teams were deployed to monitor compliance with the SOPs. They conducted checks at 4,057 supermarkets, 5,917 restaurants, 1,355 hawker stalls, 1,602 factories, 3,563 banks and 955 government offices.
They also monitored 1,448 land transport, 322 water transport and 122 air transport terminals.
He said police had set up 53 roadblocks across the country and inspected 19,355 vehicles to stop illegal immigrants from entering the country.
He warned that the government would take stern action against those who tried to sneak in illegally.
Ismail also said 2,063 people had returned to Malaysia from July 24 to Aug 16 and were quarantined in 61 hotels and five training centres across the country.
Of that number, 43 had been admitted to hospital for treatment and 4,886 allowed to go home.
