IPOH, Sept 9 — The proposed allocation of RM300 million to build ‘bersih’ (clean), ‘menawan’ (attractive) and ‘wangi’ (pleasant smelling) or BMW toilets nationwide is one of the initiatives under the national public utility reform agenda presented by the Ministry of Local Government Development (KPKT) for the 2024 Budget.
Minister Nga Kor Ming said the proposal is among 29 initiatives put forward by the ministry during its meeting with the Treasury Secretary-General yesterday.
“We also sought RM100 million to switch conventional street lights to LED or solar-powered bulbs nationwide for sustainability,” he told reporters after a visit to the Seri Kepayang Flats at Fair Park, here, today.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who is also Finance Minister is expected to table Budget 2024 on Oct 13.
On a separate note, Nga said the ministry is targeting to provide 10,000 MyKiosks nationwide for hawkers and small traders by 2025.
He said this year 3,073 kiosks will be distributed to local authorities to be leased to hawkers and small traders at a minimum rent.
Nga also announced an additional allocation of RM750,000 to the Perak Housing and Property Board (LPHP) for upgrading and maintenance works involving 11 projects.
“It is to upgrade the facilities at nine flats and two relocations of fishermen,” he said.
With this additional sum, a total of RM8.5 million has been approved for LPHP, he said, adding that it is the biggest allocation so far.
