KUALA LUMPUR, July 19 – A coaltion of youth wings, including PKR Youth, handed an official memorandum to the United States (US) embassy in Kuala Lumpur to protest the nomination of Nick Adams as US Ambassador to Malaysia.
PKR Youth deputy chief Izuan Kassim said that three representatives were allowed into the embassy grounds and were informed that the memorandum would be handed to the US administration for further consideration.
The coalition is seeking that the nomination be withdrawn and a more moderate, professional candicate who respects Malaysia’s sensitivites be appointed.
“The role of an ambassador is to serve as a bridge between two nations, so we don’t want someone who is tasked with that to destroy the bridge instead.
“The memorandum rejects the nomination on several major reasons, including divisive rhetoric, Islamophobic views, open support towards Zionism, sexist statements that do not respect gender equality and do not reflect a balanced and professional diplomatic spirit,” he said in a statement today.
About 100 participants from various backgrounds representing the voice of Malaysians, including the AMANAH Youth, DAP Socialist Youth (DAPSY), IKRAM Muda and Mahaasiswa AMANAH, showed up for the handing over of the memorandum.
