KUALA LUMPUR,Oct 13: The conditional movement control order (CMCO) allows the economy and supply chain to continue without disruption despite restrictions on the social and education sectors, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said.
He acknowledged that it is a challenge to safeguard and strike a balance between health and economy in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“A loss of balance means loss of lives and loss of livelihood. Conditional MCO allows the economy and supply chain to continue without disruption but restrictions (to be placed) on social and education sectors,” he said on Twitter.
CMCO has been imposed in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya from tomorrow following the increase in Covid-19 cases in the three areas.
The number of new positive cases throughout the country remained at three digits yesterday, with 563 reported to take the cumulative tally to 16,220. The number of active cases also rose to 5,039, while two fatalities were reported to take the death toll to 159.
At a press conference yesterday, Noor Hisham said the new cases were scattered and had started to spread in Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya as well as all districts in Selangor except for Sabak Bernam.
He said the government could not wait until the yellow zones turn into red before implementing CMCO or enhanced movement control order (EMCO).
