KUALA LUMPUR, July 25 – AirAsia X Bhd carried 880,265 passengers in the second quarter (2Q) of 2024, a 42 per cent year-on-year (yoy) surge, surpassing the 25 per cent yoy growth in its available seat per kilometre (ASK) capacity.

In a statement on Wednesday, the airline said ASK capacity reached 4.39 billion this quarter, up from 3.50 billion in the same period last year.

This increase follows the carrier’s efforts over the past 12 months to reactivate aircraft and expand its network to meet growing demand.

“The airline’s passenger load factor (PLF) charted a robust 83 per cent, up by seven percentage points yoy, buoyed by peak spring travel seasons in key markets and the Eid holiday period during the quarter under review,” it said.

AirAsia X resumed operations to Xi’an, China in April, reinforcing its presence in this core market with five destinations, including Beijing, Chengdu, Hangzhou and Shanghai.

“During the quarter, the airline increased flight frequencies between Kuala Lumpur and Bali to 14 times per week from nine times previously, responding to strong demand for the island,” it added.
