IPOH, July 31 – The Perak Department of Wildlife Protection (Perhilitan) is carrying out  relocation of three wild elephants that were captured wandering around Kampung Sungai Durian, Sungai Siput Utara on July 24.

Its director, Yusoff Shariff said that the three elephants, one male and two females, all estimated to be around five years old will be relocated to the Royal Belum Forest.

“The operation involves 18 personnel from Perak Perhilitan Perak and the National Elephant Conservation Centre (PKGK) in Kuala Gandah, Lanchang, Pahang.

“We will conduct the relocation over two days. Today, we are focusing on one female elephant, while the remaining two (one female and one male) will be released tomorrow into the Royal Belum Forest.

“Two trained elephants, Abot and Kasturi from PKGK, are being utilised in the operation to relocate these mammals, which are estimated to weigh between 800 kilogrammes and 1.2 tonnes,” he said.

Previously, the three elephants, named Yob Terkok (the male), Yong Hani, and Yong Huda, had been frequently spotted in the village area about a week ago, causing concern among residents.
