TEHRAN, Aug 4 – The political leader of the Palestinian movement Hamas, Ismail Haniyeh, was killed by a short-range projectile with an approximately seven-kilogramme (15-pound) warhead that was fired outside the guesthouse in Tehran, reported Sputnik.

Haniyeh was killed on Wednesday after he took part in the inauguration of newly elected Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. Hamas has blamed Israel and the United States for Haniyeh’s death and vowed to retaliate.

“Taking into account the investigation data, this terrorist operation was carried out using a short-range projectile with a warhead (weight) of about seven kilogrammes and a powerful explosion, (the projectile was fired) outside the territory of the guesthouse,” the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corp (IRGC) said on Saturday in a statement, quoted by the Iranian news agency IRNA.

The IRGC also said the assassination of Haniyeh was planned and carried out by Israel and supported by the United States.
