GEORGE TOWN, Sept 23 – Bukit Mertajam MP Steven Sim Chee Keong has been elected as the new Penang DAP chairman, replacing Chow Kon Yeow who has held the post since 1999.

Bukit Gelugor MP Ramkarpal Singh who secured first spot in the state DAP elections with 1,247 votes has been appointed as state party deputy chairman.

Sim, who is also Human Resource Minister, will serve for 2024-2027 term with the other 15 members who received the highest votes during the state DAP elections.

Sim came in second at the state party polls with 1,237 votes.

Zairil Khir Johari (fourth, with 1,166 votes) and former state exco member Datuk Yeoh Soon Hin (third, 1,225 votes) were appointed as the state party vice-chairman.

Deputy Finance Minister Lim Hui Ying, who was in 12th place with 827 votes, was appointed as the Penang DAP secretary while H’ng Mooi Lye is the Assistant Secretary.
