KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 2 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has congratulated Shigeru Ishiba on being elected as the new Prime Minister of Japan.

Anwar said he looks forward to working closely with Ishiba to enhance collaboration further, explore new opportunities and continue building a future of shared prosperity and security.

“Warmest congratulations to Shigeru Ishiba on his election as Prime Minister of Japan.

“Japan is one of Malaysia’s most cherished and vital partners, a bond further strengthened last December when we elevated our relationship to a comprehensive strategic partnership,” he said in a post on Facebook.

Meanwhile Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong said he looks forward to working together with Ishiba to further deepen the extensive relations between Singapore and Japan, especially as the two countries will be commemorating the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2026.

“Singapore and Japan enjoy warm, substantive and longstanding relations. We cooperate in a wide variety of areas, including the economy and defence.

“Our collaboration has expanded to emerging areas like start-ups and innovation, green and digital transformation, and security cooperation,” Wong said.
