KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 22 – Gamuda Bhd, together with two Taiwanese-based companies, MiTAC Information Technology Corp and Dong Pi Co, Ltd, have secured a RM4.3 billion turnkey design and build contract for the Xizhi Donghu Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) project in Taiwan.
The project was awarded by the Department of Rapid Transit Systems, an MRT division established under the New Taipei City Government.
In a filing with Bursa Malaysia, Gamuda said the parties involved would serve as the main contractor for the project, which has been awarded to an unincorporated joint venture comprising Gamuda with a 75 per cent majority stake, MiTAC with 15 per cent, and DongPi with 10 per cent.
“The joint venture is obligated to undertake, when instructed by the New Taipei City Government, an already determined additional works valued at RM10.8 billion.
“These additional works encompass the Xizhi Donghu Line Maintenance Depot, as well as system and track works for two extension lines – the Keelung Line MRT and the Minsheng Line MRT,” it said.
According to Gamuda, these additional works, which would be separate contracts, are expected to be awarded before the end of the Xizhi Donghu MRT contract.
The total combined project value with the additional works would be approximately RM15.1 billion.

The seven-year project involves constructing a 5.78-kilometre railway track that includes six elevated stations located in Taipei’s Neihu District and New Taipei City’s Xizhi District.
The MRT project is part of a substantial infrastructure initiative currently underway in New Taipei City, Taiwan, with the primary goal of expanding and improving the connectivity between Xizhi District and other parts of New Taipei and Taipei City.
Its overarching aim is to create an efficient and modern mass rapid transit system to meet the ever-growing demands of New Taipei’s urban populace.
In a separate statement today, Gamuda said the project win represents the group’s seventh major infrastructure project in the country and the biggest since entering the Taiwanese market two decades ago.
