JAKARTA, Nov 4 – Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Mohd Na’im Mokhtar met with key local Islamic organisations in Jakarta on Sunday to strengthen Malaysia-Indonesia relations and advance Islamic syiar in the Nusantara.
The discussions, which included Malaysia’s ambassador to Indonesia, Datuk Syed Md Hasrin Tengku Hussin, and top officials from the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI), Muhammadiyah, and Nahdlatul Ulama, focused on enhancing collaboration, youth cooperation, and the Palestinian issue.
“We will continue to work together to promote Al-Wasatiyyah, or moderation, in line with the principles of Malaysia Madani, thereby strengthening our bonds of brotherhood, God willing,” he stated.
The meeting also covered updates on Indonesia’s new government and ongoing collaborations in areas such as the halal industry, Islamic economics and da’wah.
“By working together, we can create synergies within the business community that adhere to Sharia principles, ultimately benefitting the economies of both countries,” said MUI secretary-general Amirsyah Tambunan.
Mohd Na’im is in Jakarta at the invitation of the Indonesian government to participate in the two-day World Zakat and Waqf Forum 2024, which concluded on Saturday.
