Shenzhen Marks SEZ Anniversary With Launch of Modernisation Book Series

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 28 – The Shenzhen Practice of Chinese Modernisation series was officially launched on Aug 26 to mark the 45th anniversary of the establishment of the Shenzhen Special Economic Zone (SEZ).

According to a statement, about 200 participants attended the ceremony, which unveiled the series that highlights Shenzhen’s journey of reform, innovation and pursuit of high-quality development.

Published by Xinhua Publishing House, the series comprises seven volumes containing about 1.05 million words and 600 illustrations.

The books reflect the achievements and experiences of the SEZ over 45 years, covering seven key themes – reform and opening-up, high-quality development, rule of law, urban civilisation, livelihood and well-being, green growth, and innovation-driven development.

Xinhua Publishing House Editor-in-Chief and Party Committee Member, Wang Yongxia described the collection as a resource that balances strategic insight with accessible language, offering global readers an in-depth look at Shenzhen’s role in China’s modernisation journey.

Blending macro context with micro stories, the series has been praised by early readers for capturing both the structural achievements and the human narratives behind the SEZ’s evolution.

It aims to serve not only as a historical record but also as a reference point for understanding China’s path to modernisation through the Shenzhen lens.

By documenting both achievements and lessons learnt, the publication presents Shenzhen as a potential model of reform-driven development for the global community.
