Malaysia-China Insight Joins Global Media Leaders at 12th World Chinese Media Forum in Kunming

KUNMING, Sept 8 – The 12th World Chinese Media Forum, hosted by China News Service, convened in Kunming on Sunday, bringing together more than 120 Chinese-language media organizations from over 50 countries and regions across five continents.

Among the prominent attendees was Dato’ Keith Lee, founder of Malaysia-China Insight, who represented Malaysia alongside delegates from Sin Chew Daily and Asia Times.

Themed “Towards Victory, Talking about Rejuvenation, and Seeking Greater Harmony,” the forum served as a platform for global Chinese media to reflect on shared heritage, foster mutual understanding, and promote cross-cultural dialogue in a rapidly changing world.

In her opening remarks, Chen Xu—Vice Minister of the United Front Work Department of the CPC Central Committee and Director of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council—highlighted the significance of this year as the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.

She emphasized the crucial role that overseas Chinese media play in uniting Chinese communities worldwide and promoting China’s peaceful development and vision of global cooperation.

“Chinese-language media should tell China’s story well, using expressions that bridge Eastern and Western perspectives,” Chen urged. “They should contribute to intercultural dialogue and global civilization development.”

Li Baojun, a member of the Standing Committee of the Yunnan Provincial Party Committee, and Chen Lujun, President of China News Service, also addressed the forum, underlining Yunnan Province’s role as a cultural and strategic gateway between China and Southeast Asia.

Dato’ Keith Li, who was attending the forum for the second time, expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to participate in what he called “a vital exchange of perspectives and experiences among global Chinese media.”

“Coming together in Kunming, the Spring City, provides us with a unique platform to reflect on our responsibilities as media professionals,” said Li, who is also President of the China Entrepreneurs Association in Malaysia (PUCM).

“We are storytellers of not just China, but of Chinese communities around the world. In an era of rapid change and geopolitical complexity, we must uphold our duty to promote truth, mutual understanding, and the spirit of rejuvenation.”

Li also noted the emotional impact of recently attending the September 3rd military parade in Beijing, commemorating the 80th anniversary of the War of Resistance.

“We carry the responsibility of preserving the national spirit and contributing to global peace and development,” he added.

The World Chinese Media Forum, first held in 2001, has become one of the most influential gatherings for Chinese-language media worldwide. This year’s event continues its legacy of strengthening ties among overseas Chinese media, fostering journalistic collaboration, and encouraging balanced and constructive narratives about China on the global stage.
