KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 8 — The Election Commission (EC) will convene a special meeting on October 16 to finalise key dates and other matters for the 17th Sabah state election.
EC secretary Datuk Khairul Shahril Idrus said the commission received official notification yesterday from Sabah State Assembly Speaker Datuk Seri Kadzim M. Yahya on the dissolution of the 16th Sabah State Legislative Assembly.
“As stipulated under Article 21, Clause (4) of the Sabah State Constitution, a general election must be held within 60 days of the dissolution.
“The EC will meet on October 16 to discuss the schedule and related matters,” he said in a statement today.
Last Monday, caretaker Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor announced the dissolution of the state assembly, clearing the way for the 17th state polls.
All 73 assembly seats will be contested.
