KANGAR, Feb 27 — Manpower in the medical field, namely doctors and physicians should be increased to meet the urgent need to address the COVID-19 pandemic in the country, said the Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail.
“The pressure placed on the healthcare system teaches us to have more doctors to meet the needs of the country,” he said.
He said this through a webinar entitled Forward Malaysia: Charting New Paths to the Next Normal organised by the Newcastle University Medicine Malaysia (NUMed) today.
Tuanku Syed Faizuddin said the COVID-19 pandemic has been a good lesson that emphasised on the importance of today’s preparation in dealing tomorrow’s problems.
Meanwhile, he said the General Medicine or Advanced Acute Internal Medicine (AAIM) in Malaysia and other countries such as the United Kingdom and Australia had been receiving a lot of exposure in recent years.
“We have an advantage that we can learn from the experience of the health care system in these countries. Although they may have different populations, there are many similarities between us and them,” he said.
He said in line with the COVID-19 landscape change today, MAAMUSS or Malaysian Advanced Acute Internal Medicine and Ultra Sound Society have pioneered a unique online ultrasound and echocardiography course.
It combines online teaching in the form of interactive webinars (online seminars) and live training by local trained supervisors.
