12-year-old Boy Killed in Croc Attack Near Kpg Empila in Kota Samarahan

KUCHING, Sept 18 – A 12-year-old boy was killed after being attacked by a crocodile while casting a fishing net in a river near Kampung Empila in Kota Samarahan, this morning.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said the victim was found at 9.50am, about 10 metres from where he was last seen, with injuries to his body and chest from crocodile bites.

“The victim was brought to Kampung Niup jetty at 9.55am and later handed over to the police for further action,” it said in a statement.

According to Bomba, the victim had been casting a fishing net from a boat about 10 metres from another fishing boat when the incident occurred.

“A witness in the nearby boat heard the boy scream before he suddenly disappeared from sight. The witness immediately searched the area before calling the emergency hotline,” Bomba said.

Bomba said they received a call about the incident at 7.53am and firefighters from the Kota Samarahan fire station were dispatched to the scene.

Following the recovery of the deceased’s body, the search and rescue operation ended at 10.15am.
