6.3 Quake Hits Kamchatka, Russia – MetMalaysia

KUALA LUMPUR, July 22 — A strong earthquake with a magnitude of 6.3 struck off the eastern coast of Kamchatka, Russia, at 9.59am today.

In a statement, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) reported that the earthquake was centred at coordinates 52.6 degrees North and 160.6 degrees East, at a depth of 49 kilometres.

“The epicentre was located approximately 137 kilometres east of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy, Russia,” the statement read.

Preliminary assessments indicate that there is no tsunami threat to Malaysia.
