Cops Nab Four Over Putrajaya MRT Line Cable Theft

KUALA LUMPUR, March 15 — The police arrested four suspects believed to be involved in the theft of cables along the Putrajaya Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Line in a recent operation.

Prasarana Malaysia Bhd said the arrests followed intelligence and surveillance carried out jointly by the Prasarana Auxiliary Police Unit and the police (PDRM) from the Selangor contingent headquarters.

“All suspects, aged between 30 and 45, were taken to the scene to assist in the identification of items seized as part of the investigation,” it said in a statement.

The arrests were made following a police report lodged by Prasarana over a cable theft incident near the Sri Damansara Barat Station on March 3.

The incident disrupted Putrajaya MRT Line services for three days, affecting thousands of public transport users.

Meanwhile, Prasarana Group president and chief executive officer Amir Hamdan said close cooperation between the Prasarana Auxiliary Police Unit and PDRM would continue to be strengthened through monitoring and surveillance to curb cable theft.

He also expressed appreciation to the PDRM team from the Selangor contingent headquarters for their swift and professional action in arresting the suspects and expediting the investigation.

As a preventive measure, Prasarana will enhance security along the MRT Putrajaya Line by increasing patrols and strengthening infrastructure monitoring.

Members of the public with information on suspicious activities that may affect public transport facilities are urged to report it to the authorities.
