IPOH, Aug 19 – The Ulu Kinta General Operations Force (GOF) seized 33,500 kilogrammes (kg) of white Thai rice worth around RM400,000 being smuggled in a trailer lorry in Gerikon Sunday.
GOF Northern Brigade commander, SAC Shahrum Hashim said a man, 44, was also arrested during the operation between 3.15 pm to 5.45 pm.
“The operation team detained a trailer lorry carrying 670 gunny sacks of white Thai rice, each weighing 50 kg, while it was on its way to a rice warehouse in Perak,” he said in a statement.
The case is being investigated under Section 7(2) of the Control of Paddy and Rice Act 1994, he added.
