Malaysia to Highlight Semicon Strategy at Asean Summit Next Month

KUCHING, Sept 12 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today said Malaysia will highlight its semiconductor strategy at the 47th Asean Summit in Kuala Lumpur next month to attract more foreign investment in the industry.

He said the government will promote competitive incentives and Malaysia’s strategic position as a key player in the global supply chain.

“In conjunction with the Asean Summit, we will also promote the semiconductor strategy and competitive incentives to foreign firms,” he said at the launch of the expanded X-FAB Sarawak facility at the Sama Jaya Free Industrial Zone here.

Anwar said Malaysia is in the best position to articulate its strengths, with Sarawak set to be the star of the show at the summit.

On another note, the prime minister confirmed the attendance of Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa at the summit.

Previously, Anwar said that United States President Donald Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Chinese Premier Li Qiang would also attend the Asean Summit.
