MMEA Seizes 24 Tonnes of Frozen Chicken Smuggled From Singapore

JOHOR BAHRU, Nov 30 — The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) has seized 24 tonnes of frozen chicken worth RM220,000 smuggled from Singapore after detaining a boat in Teluk Kabung jetty, Pasir Gudang here.

Acting Tanjung Sedili Maritime Zone director Commander (M) Mohd Najib Sam said the 2,071 boxes of frozen chicken were found on a fibreglass boat after a joint operation with the police found it in a suspicious manner at the jetty at 2.45 pm Friday

“There was 12 kilogrammes (kg) of frozen chicken in each box, believed to have been smuggled in without approval,” he said in a statement today, adding that a lorry suspected to be used to carry the chicken was also seized, and the total seizures exceeded RM600,000.

A man, 59, who was the owner of the jetty, was also arrested to facilitate investigations under the Customs Act 1967, he added.
