KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 1 — A moderate earthquake, measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale, struck the South Maluku Sea in Indonesia, at 6.12 am today.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia), in a statement, said that the earthquake occurred at coordinates 0.2 degrees south and 126.1 degrees east, approximately 177 kilometres northwest of West Papua, Indonesia, at a depth of 114 kilometres.
“Initial assessments indicate that there is no tsunami threat to Malaysia,” it said.
